Invitation to tender for operation by the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH)

The pilot project resulted in a contract to operate the national database on the dosage of medicinal products for paediatric use. The Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) issued a public invitation to tender for the operation of the national database in August 2017.

Foundation of the SwissPedDose association

The institutions involved in the pilot project (GSASA, pädiatrie schweiz and the 8 Category A children’s hospitals) therefore joined together in May 2017 to form the SwissPedDose association (statutes). The association is registered in the commercial register of the canton of Zurich (CHE-454.743.475).

With the creation of the association, the main Swiss players in this field demonstrated their intention to play a leading role in the process of harmonising the dosage of paediatric pharmaceuticals. By founding the association, particularly the involvement of the experts of the various Category A children’s hospitals in the harmonisation process should be ensured.

Awarding the service contract to the association

In September 2017, the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) awarded this service contract to the SwissPedDose association. From April 2018 to December 2025, the association operated the national database on the dosage of medicines for children on behalf of the FOPH.

Discontinuation of funding by the FOPH

At the end of February 2025, the FOPH announced that financial support for the SwissPedDose pediatric drug database (based on Article 67a of the Therapeutic Products Act) would have to be discontinued at the end of 2025 after eight years for reasons of economy. The members of the SwissPedDose association decided to continue operating the database independently.
